A slimming pill killed at least 33 people in the UK; it was recently added to the country’s list of regulated poisons.

DNP, or 2,4-Dinitrophenol, is classified as an explosive and banned for human consumption; however, people marketed it on the Internet as a weight-loss aid. Experts warn that DNP isn’t a medication, a recreational drug, or a nutritional supplement. It’s a toxic chemical that’s extremely dangerous at all doses, and it often leads to death. Under the Poisons Act 1973, the toxin will be regulated after October 1, 2023, so anyone who wishes to buy it will require a license from a registered pharmacist.

The change follows a long campaign by the families of those who died. They hope that new restrictions ban DNP completely.
